Webinar Description:
The term “Latinx” is a broad concept that attempts to encompass the different nationalities and ethnicities of the Latin diaspora. However, this can lead to play therapists feeling incompetent in their ability to understand and respect the various cultures underneath the Latinx umbrella. This webinar will allow participants to explore the different cultural considerations in play therapy with Latinx children and families, including play-based interventions to honor these cultures. Time will also be spent exploring traumatic experiences in the Latinx community including family separations and other grief events. Participants will also explore the use of play therapy to address race-based trauma and play themes that may signal distress in Latinx children. 
 
Learning Objectives: 
Explain play-based interventions to gain play therapy buy-in with Latinx children and families.
Assess cultural considerations in play therapy with Latinx children and families.
List play themes that may signal mental distress in the playroom
Use play-based interventions to empower Latinx children in individual and group play therapy sessions.
Discuss seminal play therapy theories to address grief and bereavement in Latinx children and families.
Identify play-based interventions to engage Latinx caregivers in family play therapy.
