Workshop Description:

Balancing the needs and expectations of a school while using play therapy can be difficult. This workshop will help play therapists learn how to support children from preschool to high school by using play-based interventions in individual and group play therapy in a school setting. Participants will also learn how to communicate the effectiveness of play therapy to school staff and administrators, while also exploring how to create play therapy goals in collaboration with teachers. The workshop will also discuss play-based methods to engage teachers and parents in the school setting to promote self-regulation across environments. Additionally, participants will explore play-based interventions and goals that can address common mental health issues in schools including anxiety, depression, ADHD and more. 

 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Explain the benefits of play therapy in schools.

  2. Demonstrate the ability to create play therapy goals that can be used in an academic settings.

  3. Identify play therapy activities to engage caregivers in school-based play therapy.

  4. Compare the use of play therapy seminal theories in school-based play therapy.

  5. Describe ways to collaborate with teachers in creating play therapy treatment goals.

  6. Discuss play-based interventions to implement in school settings to address common mental health issues in children of all ages.
