Training Description: 

Clients of all ages are experiencing a high level of stress of trauma. Adverse childhood events like bullying, medical trauma, disaster trauma and abuse disrupt childhood development but can be addressed in individual, family and group play therapy. This 2-day workshop (with webinar option) explores the use of seminal and historical play therapy theories to support healing in children with adverse childhood experiences including Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy, Gestalt Play Therapy and Jungian Analytical Play Therapy. Participants will engage in experiential play therapy activities that can be implemented in play therapy sessions to aid in self-regulation and healthy coping skills for children to address trauma stressors in healthier ways. Additionally, attendees will explore the application of the basic tenets of Ecosystemic Play Therapy to competently assess and treat the moods and behaviors of children displaying traumatic stress symptoms in and out of the playroom. 

 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Apply the basic tenets of Ecosystemic Play Therapy in trauma-informed play therapy assessment and diagnosis. 
  2. List play themes signaling distress in the playroom. 
  3. Use play therapy interventions to decrease traumatic stress in children.
  4. Explain the signs in the playroom that traumatic stress has decreased.
  5. Discuss the benefits of Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy in working with children with trauma.
  6. Describe the use of Gestalt Play Therapy to address trauma in children across the lifespan. 
  7. Analyze Adlerian Play Therapy techniques to address trauma in children and adolescents. 
  8. Identify play therapy interventions to help children and adolescents create trauma narratives. 
  9. Describe play-based activities to support children and adolescents experiencing bullying victimization. 
  10. Assess the use of Jungian Analytical Play Therapy to promote healing in children with adverse childhood experiences. 
  11. Analyze Filial therapy techniques to engage caregivers of children with adverse childhood experiences. 
  12. Discuss play-based interventions for group play therapy with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.
